consumerism
plato: So have any of your disciples maintained the lifestyle?
keldwud: lol
keldwud: just my parents
keldwud: but we're only on month 2
keldwud: I kind of work like a trainer
plato: Oh?
keldwud: like a physical trainer
keldwud: you have to come to me
keldwud: I only come to you once per month
keldwud: because the plan doesn't work and *will* not work if I do the work for them
plato: Yeh
keldwud: if they don't have the discipline or interest to keep in contact with me
keldwud: they don't have the discipline to follow this plan
keldwud: and my plan is very counter culture
keldwud: and very anti-consumerism
keldwud: so the philosophy of it is tough for most people to swallow
keldwud: because it is constantly being attacked by outside influences that I cannot control
keldwud: get what I'm saying?
keldwud: it's more than just about the food, it's about changing the way you react to advertising
keldwud: it requires reprogramming
keldwud: and I can't waste time with people who aren't in a position where they can allow their consumer instincts to be reprogrammed
keldwud: so, my success rate is pretty low ;)
keldwud: to answer your question
plato: Hrm. I've never been a fan of consumerism. My biggest beef has to be when I'm referred to as a "consumer" of a company. I have no problem being their "customer"...but that word condumer bothers me.
keldwud: well, whether we like it or not, we are consumers
keldwud: do you salivate when you see the golden arches?
keldwud: or when you hear certain jingles?
keldwud: like, I don't believe in consumerism and I never eat at mcdonalds
keldwud: but I still salivate at the sight of it.
keldwud: it takes some serious deprogramming to stop being a consumer
keldwud: right now, just staying constantly aware of my body's reactions to certain stimulus just keeps me from *reacting* like a consumer
keldwud: but it doesn't keep me from being a consumer deep down. To do that, I would have to not have any physical reactions to the various stimuli present in our cities and homes
keldwud: once I can consume entertainment without feeling urges to react, I will no longer be a consumer
